SANCTIFICATION

Sunday Morning:  September 8, 2002

Text:  Hebrews 13:12-13  "Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify [set apart] the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 13. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach."

RICHES OF REWARDS

Hebrews 11:26  "Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward."

REWARD FOR SERVICE

Colossians 3:23-24  "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24. Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

THE WILL OF GOD

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4  "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 4. That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;"

CALLED TO SANCTIFICATION

1 Thessalonians 4:7  "For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness [sanctification]."

PREPARED FOR SERVICE

2 Timothy 2:21-22  "If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. 22. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart."

BLOOD AND REMISSION

Hebrews 9:22  "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission [afesi", deliverance, liberty]."

REMISSION DEFINED

Luke 4:18  "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance [afesi", remission, liberty] to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty [afesi", deliverance, remission] them that are bruised,"

PURSUE SANCTIFICATION

Hebrews 12:14  "Follow peace with all men, and holiness [sanctification], without which no man shall see the Lord:"

BY SPRINKLING HIS BLOOD

Hebrews 9:12-14  "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal [agelasting] redemption for us. 13. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14. How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal [agelasting] Spirit (spirit of the age) offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?"

REDEEMED FOR SERVICE

Exodus 8:1  "And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me."

REDEEMED OUT OF EGYPT

1 Chronicles 17:21  "And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?"

SERVED EGYPT

Joshua 24:17  "For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, . . ."

GRACE FOR SERVICE

Hebrews 12:28  "Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:"

GRACE IS POWER TO SERVE

2 Corinthians 12:9  "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

ABOUNDING GRACE

2 Corinthians 9:8  "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:"

SERVANT OF SIN?

Romans 6:6  "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

DOES SIN REIGN?

Romans 6:12  "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof."

IF SIN REIGNS

Romans 5:21  "That as sin hath reigned unto death (loss of our inheritance, agelasting life in the kingdom), even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

ARE YOU SIN'S SERVANT?

Romans 6:16  "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto [leading to] death, or of obedience unto [leading to] righteousness?"

SERVANTS OF UNCLEANNESS

Romans 6:19  "I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness [sanctification]."

FREE FROM THE BONDAGE OF SIN

Romans 6:22  "But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness [sanctification], and the end (results) everlasting [agelasting] life."

REDEMPTION AND REMISSION

Ephesians 1:7  "In whom we have redemption (release from serving others) through his blood, the forgiveness [afesi", remission, deliverance, liberty] of [from] sins, according to the riches of his grace;"

SANCTIFIED BY THE WORD

John 17:17  "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

WORD OF HIS GRACE

Acts 20:32  "And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified."

IF GRACE REIGNS

Romans 5:21  "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness (part of sanctification)unto eternal [agelasting, kingdom] life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

THE POWER IS AVAILABLE

Hebrews 4:15-16  "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy (at the mercy seat where the blood is for sanctification), and find grace to help in time of need (service)."
