PROMISED BLESSING

Sunday Morning:  March 30, 2003

Text: Galatians 3:9-14  "So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

10. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

11. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

12. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

13. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

14. That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

UNDER THE CURSE

Galatians 3:10  "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them (Deuteronomy 27:26 from the Septuagint)."

THE CURSE OF THE LAW

Deuteronomy 28:15-20  "But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken (the just hearken) unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee (the unjust), and overtake thee: 16. Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. 17. Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store. 18. Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. 19. Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out. 20. The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me."

JUST BUT NOT JUSTIFIED

Galatians 3:11-12  "But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.”

JUSTIFICATION

Romans 8:33-34  "Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. 34. Who is he that condemneth [sentences]? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen (so faith will work 1 Cor. 15:14).."

RESURRECTION REQUIRED

1 Corinthians 15:14  "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain."

JUST, NOT JUSTIFIED

Luke 1:6  "And they were both righteous [just] before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless."

ORDINANCES BLOTTED OUT

Colossians 2:14  "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;"

THE JUST ARE CHARGEABLE

Luke 17:10  "So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you (just), say, We are unprofitable servants: (the charge) we have done that which was our duty to do (no faith)."

THE SENTENCE

Matthew 25:30  "And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

CEREMONIAL LAW IS NOT OF FAITH

Galatians 3:12  "And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them."

THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH

Romans 14:23  ". . . whatsoever (works of the law or any kind) is not of faith is sin."

ONLY THE JUST CAN LIVE BY FAITH

Hebrews 10:38-39  "Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe [of faith] to [leading to] the saving [acquired possession] of the soul."

FAITH PLEASES GOD

Hebrews 11:6  "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

BLESSING AND CURSING

Deuteronomy 30:19  "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:"

THE BLESSING

1 Peter 1:9  Receiving [present middle] the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”

REDEEMED

Galatians 3:13  “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”

JESUS, CURSED OF GOD

Acts 5:30  “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.”

BECAUSE OF OUR SIN

Deuteronomy 21:22-23  “And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: 23. His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.”

MADE SIN FOR US

2 Corinthians 5:21  "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God (which is by faith) in him."

BLESSING OF ABRAHAM

Galatians 3:14 “That the blessing of Abraham might (might not) come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might (might not) receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (not departed from 1 Tim. 4:1)”

SOME DEPART FROM THE FAITH

1 Timothy 4:1  "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"

HEAVENLY SEED

Deuteronomy 1:10  "The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude."

CHOSE THE PROMISE

Deuteronomy 30:19  "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:"

THE BLESSING

Romans 4:13-14  "For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the (ceremonial) law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14. For if they which are of the (ceremonial) law be heirs (inherit the promise), faith (pleasing God and resurrection) is made void, and the promise (and not the common salvation) made of none effect: (null and void)"

THE PROMISES

Hebrews 6:12  "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises (two promises, heavenly and earthly).”

THE PROMISE

Hebrews 6:15  "And so, after he had patiently endured (works of faith), he obtained the promise (heavenly)."

PROMISE DEFINED

BE DILIGENT

Hebrews 6:11  "And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:"
