Text:  Romans 5:8-10  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

CHRIST DIED

Romans 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died [aorist, event] for us.

JESUS GAVE UP THE GHOST

John 19:30  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up [aorist, event] the ghost [spirit].

HE DIED FOR ALL

2 Corinthians 5:14-15  For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died [aorist, event] for all, then were all dead:  15  And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

MUCH MORE, HIS BLOOD

Romans 5:9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

BLOOD CAME AFTER HE DIED

John 19:34  But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

ENEMIES

Romans 5:10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death [noun, state, or place] of his Son (second part of the God head), much more, being reconciled (aorist passive), we shall be saved (future passive, from wrath v. 9) by his life (now as our high priest).

THE UNFAITHFUL ARE ENEMIES

James 4:4  Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

ENMITY AGAINST GOD

Romans 8:7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

THE FRIEND OF GOD

James 2:23  And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

MY ENEMIES

Luke 19:27  But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

RECONCILED ENEMIES

Romans 5:10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

RECONCILIATION

1 Corinthians 7:10-11  And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:  11  But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

REBELLED BY DEPARTING

Daniel 9:5  We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

EVIL HEARTS DEPART FROM GOD

Hebrews 3:12-13  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.  13  But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

DEPART FROM THE FAITH

1 Timothy 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

NOW RECONCILED

Colossians 1:21-23  And you, that were sometime (not all the time) alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled  22  In the body of his flesh (in the garden) through [the] death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:  23  If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away [present tense] from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

RECONCILED BY DEATH

Romans 5:10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

TWO DEATHS

Isaiah 53:9  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death [Hebrew, plural, deaths]; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

IN HIS BODY OF FLESH

Isaiah 53:10  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul (not his body) an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days (as our high priest), and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

BEAR THE INIQUITY OF THE MANY

Isaiah 53:11  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear [5445] their iniquities.

TRAVAIL OF HIS SOUL

Mark 14:33-36  And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;  34  And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.  35  And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

THAT DEATH

36  And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

BEAR THE CONSEQUENCES

Lamentations 5:7  Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne [5445] their iniquities.

HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR THE SHEEP

John 10:14-16  I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.  15  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.  16  And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

WE SHOULD LAY DOWN OUR LIVES

1 John 3:15-16  Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.  16  Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we (brethren) ought to lay down our lives (not physical death) for the brethren.

HE LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS

John 15:13-15  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  14  Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.  15  Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

THE FEAR OF GOD

Jeremiah 32:40  And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

TO DEPART IS TO FORSAKE

Jeremiah 17:13  O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.
