Text:  Romans 6:15-23

MAY WE SIN? NO!

Romans 6:15  What then? shall we sin [aorist active subjunctive, may we sin?], because we are not under the law, but under grace? God (not in the text) forbid [may not this be, mh + aorist middle optative]. (because of mh, it could happen, but not likely, optative)

THOSE ABIDING SINNETH NOT

1 John 3:6  Whosoever abideth [present active] in him sinneth [present active] not: whosoever sinneth [present active] hath not seen him, neither known him.

SALVATION IS TO BELIEVE

Acts 16:31  And they said, Believe (not see or know) on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

PRACTICE RIGHTEOUSNESS

1 John 3:7  Little children (who enter the kingdom), let no man deceive you: he that doeth [present active] righteousness is righteous [just], even as he is righteous [just].

PRACTICE SIN

1 John 3:8  He that committeth [present active, practices] [the] sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God (our high priest) was manifested, that he might destroy [aorist active subjunctive, loosen (now)] the works of the devil.

THE POWER IS THE SEED

1 John 3:9  Whosoever is born of [out from the] God doth not commit [present active] sin; for his seed remaineth [present active] in him: and he cannot [present active, not able] [to] sin [present infinitive], because he is born of God.

THE ONE BELIEVING IS BORN

1 John 5:1  Whosoever believeth [present active] that Jesus is the Christ is born of [out from the] God: . . .

THE SEED

Luke 8:10-11  And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.  11  Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

INCORRUPTIBLE SEED

1 Peter 1:23  Being born again [anagennaw, begotten again], not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for [the] ever [age, kingdom age].

LIVING HOPE OF INHERITANCE

1 Peter 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again [anagennaw] unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

WHY NOT SIN?

Romans 6:16  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield [present active indicative continually yield] yourselves servants to obey [from two words upo + akouw, under + hear], his servants ye are to whom ye obey [present active, under + hear]; whether of sin (master) unto [leading to] death [thanatos, to perish], or of obedience (master) unto [leading to] righteousness?

THAT GRACE MIGHT REIGN

Romans 5:21  That as [ the] sin hath reigned unto [the] death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto [leading to] eternal [age] life (in the millennial kingdom age) by Jesus Christ our Lord.

WE WERE SERVANTS OF THE SIN

Romans 6:17  But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of [the] sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

PAY ATTENTION TO DOCTRINE

1 Timothy 4:13  Till I come, give attendance [present active] to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

PREACH DOCTRINE

2 Timothy 4:2-4  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.  3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

CONTINUE IN MY WORD

John 8:31-32  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;  32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

FREE TO SERVE

Romans 6:18  Being then made free from (serving the master) [the] sin, ye became the servants of righteousness (through obedience, verse 15).

IN THE SAME WAY

Romans 6:19  I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded [aorist, in the past] your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity [lawless] unto [leading to] iniquity [lawlessness]; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto [leading to] holiness.

THE BODY HAS MANY MEMBERS

1 Corinthians 12:14-15  For the body is not one member, but many. (hand, foot, eye, ear, feet, mouth)

MORTIFY YOUR MEMBERS

Colossians 3:5  Mortify [put them to death] therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

SERVANT OF SIN ARE CHARGEABLE

Romans 6:20  For when ye were the servants of [the] sin (lawlessness), ye were free from righteousness.

THEN

Romans 6:21  What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death [thanatos, fruit of lawlessness].

NOW

Romans 6:22  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness [sanctification], and the end everlasting [age] life (in the kingdom age) (fruit of serving God).

WAGES

Romans 6:23  For the wages of [the] sin is death; but the gift [grace gift (gift by grace)] of God is eternal [age] life (in the kingdom age) through Jesus Christ our Lord.

DEATH

Revelation 1:18  I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of [the] hell (grave, Hades) and of [the] death (wages of lawlessness).

SOWING AND REAPING WAGES

John 4:36  And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal [age]: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

DO NOT FAINT

Galatians 6:8-9  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption (wages); but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life (in the kingdom) everlasting [age] (wages).  9  And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap (wages of life in the kingdom), if we faint not.
