DON’T FALL AWAY

Sunday Morning:  September 10, 2000

Text: 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3  "Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2. That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first,"

IN THE LAST DAYS

2 Timothy 3:1-4  "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent (no self control), fierce [brutal], despisers of those that are good,

4. Traitors [treacherous], heady (reckless), high minded (conceited), lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;"

BRETHREN

2 Thessalonians 2:1  "Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming [parousia, presence] of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,"

WILL OF THE FATHER

DESIRE TO ENTER THE KINGDOM

BY THE PRESENCE

OUR HOPE

1 Thessalonians 2:19  "For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence [before] of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming [parousia, presence]?"

UNBLAMEABLE IN HOLINESS

1 Thessalonians 3:13  "To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming [parousia, presence] of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints."

RAPTURE

1 Thessalonians 4:15  "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming [parousia, presence] of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep."

SANCTIFY YOU WHOLLY

1 Thessalonians 5:23  "And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming [parousia, presence] of our Lord Jesus Christ."

DON’T WAVER

2 Thessalonians 2:2  "That ye be not soon shaken [to move, to waver] in mind [thought, understanding], or be troubled, neither by spirit (a prophetic spirit), nor by word [message], nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ [the day of the Lord] is at hand."

YOU HAVE DONE GOOD

2 Thessalonians 1:3  "We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;"

YOUR HAND IS ON THE PLOW

Luke 9:62  "And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

YOU ARE LIVING BY FAITH

Hebrews 10:38  "Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him."

DEPARTING FROM THE FAITH

1 Timothy 4:1  "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"

SOON REMOVED

Galatians 1:6  "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:"

DAY OF THE LORD

2 Thessalonians 2:2  "That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ [the day of the Lord] is at hand."

A DREADFUL DAY

Malachi 4:5  "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:"

COMETH AS A THIEF

1 Thessalonians 5:1-4  "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, . . .

4. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief."

A FALLING AWAY FIRST

2 Thessalonians 2:3  "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"

THEY THAT BELIEVE FALL AWAY

THE TIME WILL COME

2 Timothy 4:3-4  "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."

THE MATURE THAT FALL AWAY

Hebrews 6:1,3-6  "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; . . . .

3. And this will we do, if God permit.

EMBRACING KINGDOM TRUTHS

4. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. “

STEDFAST, UNMOVEABLE

1 Corinthians 15:58  "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."
