THE HOPE OF REST
Sunday Morning: July 15, 2001
Text: Hebrews 3:6-13 "But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. 7. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8. Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9. When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) 12. Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief [no faith], in departing from the living God. 13. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: 3. And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

For if Jesus (Joshua) had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9. There remaineth therefore a rest [Sabbath (7th) Day Rest, Millennial rest] to the people of God. 10. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his."
THEY ENTERED NOT IN TO THEIR INHERITANCE
Psalms 95:7-11 "For he is our (the children of the fathers) God; and we are the people (the children of the fathers) of his pasture, and the sheep (the children of the fathers) of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, 8. Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9. When your fathers (who came out of Egypt) tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. 10. Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest."

Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20. Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec."
2 Peter 1:10-11 "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence [labor, endeavor, study] to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
