FALLEN FROM GRACE

Sunday Morning:  September 7, 2003

Text: Galatians 4:31- 5:4  "So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. 1.  Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."

BRETHREN WE ARE FREE

Galatians 4:31  "So then, brethren, we are not children [mature children] of the bondwoman (the law of Moses), but (mature children) of the free."

A BROTHER

Matthew 12:50  "For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother . . "

SEEKING FIRST THE KINGDOM

Matthew 7:21  "Not every one . . . shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

STAND FAST THEREFORE

Galatians 5:1  "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free (New Testament), and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage (Old Testament)."

GRACE AND TRUTH BY JESUS CHRIST

John 1:17  "For the law was given by Moses, but [the] grace and [the] truth came by Jesus Christ."

KNEW THE GRACE OF GOD

Colossians 1:5-6  "For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; 6. Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world (Israel); and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew [epiginwskw, exact knowledge] the grace of God in truth:"

KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOPE

2 Peter 2:19-21  "While they (those of the law) promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption (the law, the flesh): for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20. For if after they (of the law) have escaped the pollutions of the world (Israel and the law) through the knowledge (exact knowledge) of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they (of the law) are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21. For it had been better for them not to have known (exact knowledge) the way of righteousness (which is by faith), than, after they have known (exact knowledge) it, to turn from the holy commandment (justification by faith) delivered unto them."

STAND FAST IN FAITH

1 Corinthians 16:13  "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith (that will justify you), quit you like men, be strong (by his grace)."

HIS GRACE, HIS STRENGTH

2 Corinthians 12:9  "And he . . ., My grace is sufficient for thee. . . therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

SUBMISSIVE SPIRIT

Philippians 1:27  "Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: . . . that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;"

CIRCUMCISION

Galatians 5:2-3  "Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law."

CIRCUMCISION AND LAW

Acts 15:5  " . . . (a) sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses."

REAL CIRCUMCISION

Romans 2:28-29  "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29. But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God."

CIRCUMCISION WITHOUT HANDS

Colossians 2:11  "In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:"

CIRCUMCISION

Romans 4:9-14  ". . . for we say that faith was reckoned [imputed, given credit for] to Abraham for righteousness.

LONG AFTER HE WAS SAVED

Romans 4:3  ". . . Abraham believed God, and it was counted [reckoned, imputed] unto him for righteousness." Genesis 15:6; Gal. 3:6; Jam. 2:23

CHRIST MUST BE RISEN

1 Corinthians 15:14  "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain."

FAITH WAS IMPUTED

10. How was it then reckoned [imputed, given credit for]? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

CIRCUMCISION IS A SIGN

11. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed [reckoned, given credit for] unto them also:

WALK OF FAITH

12. And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

THE PROMISE, HIS INHERITANCE

13. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

FAITH WOULD BE VOID

14. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:"

CONTINUE IN THE FAITH

Acts 14:22  ". . exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God."

FALLEN FROM GRACE

Galatians 5:4  "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace."

CONTINUE IN THE GRACE

Acts 13:43 ". . Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God."

APPROVED BY FAITH

Romans 5:1-2  "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."

MAY WE HAVE GRACE

Hebrews 12:28  "Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have [present active subjunctive, may we have] grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably . . "

BY GRACE WE ENDURE

Ephesians 2:8-9  "For by grace (through faith) are ye [endure] saved [having been saved] through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift (grace and faith) of God: 9. Not of works (of the law), lest any man should boast."
