ROMANS 8:24-25

Sunday Morning:  May 28, 2006

Text:  Romans 8:24-25  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?  25  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.  

 WE WERE SAVED TO HOPE

Romans 8:24  For we (brethren, v.12) are saved [aorist passive, we were saved] by [dative, to the] hope: but hope that is seen [present passive] is not hope: for what a man seeth [present active], why doth he yet hope [present active] for?

GOD’S WILL

1 Timothy 2:4  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge [epignwsiv, experiential knowledge] of the truth.

JAILER SALVATION

Acts 16:30-31  And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?  31  And they said, Believe [aorist active imperative (not faith)] on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved (an event), and thy house. 

COMMON SALVATION

Jude 1:3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

BORN INTO THE FAMILY

John 3:3  . . . Except a man be born again [from above], he cannot see the kingdom of God.

JAILER’S HOPE OF SALVATION

Acts 16:32-33  And they spake unto him the word of the Lord [God], and to all that were in his house.  33  And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, …

SO GREAT SALVATION

Hebrews 2:3  How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, (Mat 3:2  Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand)

HIS NAME

Revelation 19:13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

THE WORD OF GOD

Luke 8:10-11  And he said, Unto you it is given to know (the seed) the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.  11  Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

SALVATION IN CHRIST

2 Timothy 2:9-10  Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.  10  Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal [age-lasting] glory.

THE HOPE NOT SEEN

Romans 8:24  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth [present active], why doth he yet hope for?

SCRIPTURES GIVE HOPE

Romans 15:4  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort [exhortation] of the scriptures might have hope.

HOPE OF GLORY

Romans 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

SAVED THEN CALLED

2 Timothy 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, …, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world [ages] began,

ONE HOPE

Ephesians 4:4-5  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;  5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

HOPE OF AGELASTING LIFE

Titus 1:2  In hope of eternal [age-lasting, kingdom age] life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

CALLED UNTO HIS KINGDOM

1 Thessalonians 2:12  That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

WAITING FOR ETERNAL LIFE

Romans 8:25  But if we hope [present active] for that we see [present active] not, then do we with patience [upomonh, abide under] wait [present middle] for it.

HEIRS ACCORDING TO HOPE

Titus 3:7  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal [agelasting, kingdom age] life.

LAY HOLD ON THE HOPE

Hebrews 6:18  That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

LAY HOLD ON AGE-LASTING LIFE

1 Timothy 6:12  (Man of God) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal [age-lasting kingdom] life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

HOLD FAST THE HOPE

Hebrews 10:23  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith [hope] without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

THAT WE MIGHT RECEIVED THE PROMISE

Hebrews 10:35-36  Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward (the promise verse 36).  36  For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. (reward)

THE PROMISE

1 John 2:25  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal [age-lasting] life.

THE AGE NOT SEEN

Mark 10:29-30  And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left (all) house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,  30  But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world [age, millennial kingdom] to come [the one coming] eternal [age-lasting] life.

JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST

Romans 8:17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

HOLD FAST THE HOPE

Hebrews 3:6  But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
