ROMANS 9:6-11

Sunday Morning:  July 30, 2006

Text:  Romans 9:6-11  Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:  7  Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.  8  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.  9  For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.  10  And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;  11  (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

PAUL, OF THE TRIBE OF BENJAMIN

Philippians 3:5  Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

PAUL, AN ISRAELITE, SEED OF ABRAHAM

Romans 11:1  I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

BENJAMIN CALLED A SON

Genesis 43:29  And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

BLESSED ABOVE HIS BROTHERS

Genesis 43:34  And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.

 BENJAMIN BECAME RICH

Genesis 45:22  To all of them he gave each man changes of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of raiment.

BENJAMIN WAS BELOVED

Deuteronomy 33:12  And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the LORD shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

THE WORD OF GOD

Romans 9:6  Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

WORD OF GOD DEFINED

Luke 8:10-11  And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.  11  Now the parable (sower of seed) is this: The seed is the word of God.

WORD OF GOD GIVEN IN PARABLES

Matthew 13:10-11  And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?  11  He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

DEFINITION AFFIRMED

Acts 8:12  But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God,

THEY RECEIVED THE WORD OF GOD

Acts 8:14  Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

WORKETH IN YOU THAT BELIEVE

1 Thessalonians 2:13  For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh [present middle] also in you that believe [present active participle].

WORD OF GOD IS NOT BOUND

2 Timothy 2:9-10  Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.  10  Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal [age] glory.

THE WORD OF GOD IS QUICK

Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

Ephesians 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

NOT ALL OUT FROM ISRAEL

Romans 9:6  Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all [ek, out of] Israel, which are of [these] Israel [plu. Israelites, Bezae ms]:

ISRAELITES DEFINED

Romans 9:4  Who are Israelites [nom. plural]; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

THE MANY NOT THE WHOLE BODY

Romans 12:5  So we, being [the] many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

THE CHURCH, ONE MEMBER IN CHRIST

Ephesians 5:30  For we (the church) are members of his body, [ek, out] of his flesh, and [ek, out] of his bones.

BRIDE TAKEN OUT OF CHRIST

Genesis 2:23  And Adam said, This (woman, Eve) is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

NOT ALL IN ISAAC ARE CALLED

Romans 9:7  Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children [teknon, mature]: but, In [en, among] Isaac shall thy seed be called.

ABRAHAM’S SEED

Galatians 4:22  For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one (Ishmael) by a bondmaid, the other (Isaac) by a freewoman.

TWO COVENANTS, OLD, NEW TESTAMENT

Galatians 4:24  Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.

CHILDREN OF PROMISE

Galatians 4:28  Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children [teknon] of promise.

ISHMAEL, BORN OF THE FLESH

Galatians 4:29  But as then he [Ishmael] that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.

SEPARATE INHERITANCES

Galatians 4:30  Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son (Ishmael) of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son (Isaac) of the freewoman.

THE CHILDREN

Romans 9:8  That is, They which are the children of the flesh (type in Ishmael), these are not the children of God (according to promise): but the children (type in Isaac) of the promise are counted for the seed.

BORN OF ABRAHAM

Galatians 4:23  But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.

“FOR” THIS IS WHAT I AM SAYING

Romans 9:9  For [conjunction] this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara (the free-woman) shall have a son. (Isaac)

ALSO REBECCA’S CHILDREN

Romans 9:10  And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac;

ONE CALLED AND CHOSEN

Romans 9:11  (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

SAVED FIRST THEN CALLED

2 Timothy 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world [ages] began,

PREDESTINED TO BE A SON

Ephesians 1:5  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

ACCORDING TO PURPOSE

Ephesians 1:11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
