Wednesday Evening:  September 26, 2007

Text:  Philippians 1:1-6  Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:  2  Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  3  I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,  4  Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,  5  For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;  6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

PAUL AND TIMOTHY

Philippians 1:1  Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

PAUL, JUST

Philippians 3:5-6  Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;  6  Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

EDUCATION

Acts 22:3  I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

A PHARISEE

Acts 23:6  But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

 PHARISEES BELIEVE

Acts 23:8  For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

TIMOTHY

Philippians 1:1  Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

RAISED IN A CHRISTIAN HOME

Acts 16:1-2  Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:  2  Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

A MAN OF FAITH

2 Timothy 1:5  When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

BELOVED AND FAITHFUL SON

1 Corinthians 4:17  For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, …

A GOOD DEACON

1 Timothy 4:6  If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister [deacon] of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

SERVANTS

Philippians 1:1  Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, …

THE CHIEF ARE TO BE SERVANTS

Matthew 20:26-28  But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;  27  And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:  28  Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life [soul] a ransom for many.

NO MORE A SERVANT?

Galatians 4:7  Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

TO ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM

Acts 15:5  But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses

THIS HAPPENED BEFORE

Acts 11:1-2  And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard (there were witnesses) that the Gentiles had also received the word of God (mysteries of the kingdom).  2  And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

MUST KEEP THE LAW OF MOSES

Acts 15:1  And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren (already saved), and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. (to enter into the kingdom of heaven not the common salvation)

GENTILES BELIEVED TO ENTER

Acts 15:6-7  And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.  7  And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles (Cornelius and his house)by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel (of the kingdom of heaven), and believe.

WE GAVE NO SUCH COMMANDMENT

Acts 15:24  Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

THE INEXPERIENCED NEED CONTROLLED

Galatians 4:1  Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

NO FAITH IN THE LAW, OBEY IT!

Galatians 4:2  But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

CHILDREN IN BONDAGE TO THE LAW

Galatians 4:3-4  Even so we, when we were children [inexperienced ones], were in bondage under the elements (principles] of the world (Israel, law):   4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

REDEEM FROM BONDAGE OF THE LAW

Galatians 4:5  To redeem (from the bondage of the law) them (foolish children) that were under the law , that we might receive [subjunctive] the adoption [to place] of sons (position, not practice).

WAITING FOR THE REVELATION OF THE SONS

Romans 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation [appearing, coming] of the sons of God.

WE ARE WAITING TO BE A SON

Romans 8:23  … even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption [to place as a son], to wit, the redemption of our body.

SONS JUDGED AS OVERCOMERS

Revelation 21:7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son (position of an heir that has overcome).

NOW WE ARE TO LIVE IN MATURITY

Galatians 4:6  And because ye are sons (mature lifestyle in Christ), God hath sent forth the spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying (lifestyle), Abba, Father.

NO MORE A SERVANT OF THE LAW

Galatians 4:7  Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

DEBTOR NEEDS TO BE REDEEMED

Galatians 5:3  For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

DEBTOR IS A SERVANT

Proverbs 22:7  The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower (debtor) is servant to the lender (law).

NEEDING TO BE REDEEMED AGAIN

Galatians 4:9-10  But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements [principles (law)], whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage (to the law of Moses)?  10  Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

PRINCIPLES OF THE LAW

Colossians 2:20-21  Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments [principles] of the world [Israel], why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,  21  (Touch not; taste not; handle not;

ATTITUDE OF A SERVANT

Matthew 8:9  For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
