The Old Testament reveals that God redeems those in his family, the children of Israel, from the bondage of others so that they could serve Him. \cf1\ul Exo_4:22-23\cf0\ulnone "And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, \b Israel \b0\i is \i0 my \b son, \b0\i even \i0 my firstborn:\i \i0 And I say unto thee, \b Let my son go, \b0 that he may\b serve me\b0 ." Two things were to take place every fifty years. \b First\b0 , every man that had sold his land, which was part of his family's inheritance, was to have it returned to him and his family. \b Second\b0 , every man that had sold himself to another was to be released back to his family. We can see that \b only\b0 those who were in the \b family\b0 could redeem their brother and his possessions. Redemption is a family matter. Only those who were next of kin could redeem a brother or his possessions, the land of his inheritance.\b\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28 KINSMAN REDEEMER\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 In the book of Ruth we have the story of the kinsman redeemer. Because Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, and their two sons had died in Moab without having children, therefore there was no children insure that the family would have an \b inheritance\b0 in the land. Boaz, brother of Elimelech, was a near kinsman and willing to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Boaz was very careful to make sure that the nearest kinsman had the first chance to redeem Naomi and Ruth because the right of redemption belonged to him. \cf1LVAL\ul Rth_4:1-6\cf0\ulnone "Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the\b kinsman \b0 (\b\i GA'AL\b0\i0 ) of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. This would give his children a larger inheritance. When he found out that he would have to bear children with Ruth then he refused to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Having more children with Ruth would \b mar\b0 , \b spill\b0 , \b lose\b0 , or \b perish\b0 his own inheritance. Boaz is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ. Naomi is a type of the nation of Israel, and Ruth is a type of the church both of which are in the family. When we are part of the family then we have a kinsman redeemer, Jesus Christ, so that we will not lose our inheritance.\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b REDEMPTION IN THE NEW TESTAMENT\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 There is not a single reference in the Old Testament of the dead being redeemed, only those who were alive. We are first given life by being born from above into the familLVALy of God. As a child of God we are to please Him by serving Him. That word is \f1\fs26 luw\fs24 \f0 (\ul 3089\ulnone ) which means \b to loosen, unbind,\b0 and\b unfasten\b0 as found in the \ulw The Analytical Greek Lexicon\ulnone . The word \f1\fs26 apolutrosiv\f0\fs24 is also translated \b deliverance \b0 in \cf1\ul Heb_11:35\cf0\ulnone . When we become unfaithful to the Lord, then we have chosen another master and we need to be redeemed. As a child of God we can either accept or refuse to be delivered. Redemption and remission have to be continuously available to us, otherwise we would never be able to be free to serve the Lord. The Old Testament reveals that God redeems those in his family, the children of Israel, from the bondage of others so that they could serve Him. \cf1\ul Exo_4:22-23\cf0\ulnone "And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, \b Israel \b0\i is \i0 my \b son, \b0\i even \i0 my firstborn:\i \i0 And I say unto thee, \b Let my son go, \b0 that he may\b serve me\b0 ." The Lord instituted this practice to stimulate a man's son to ask the question "What is this?" It was then that a father could tell the exodus story of how God redeemed them from the bondage of Egypt. Two things were to take place every fifty years. \b First\b0 , every man that had sold his land, which was part of his family's inheritance, was to have it returned to him and his family. \b Second\b0 , every man that had sold himself to another was to be released back to his family. In \cf1\ul Lev_25:23-25\cf0\ulnone "The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land \i is \i0 mine; for ye \i are \i0 strangers and sojourners with me. And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a \b redemption\b0 \b\i for\b0\i0 the\b land.\b0 If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away \i some \i0 of his possession, and if any of \b his kin\b0 come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold." We can see that \b only\b0 those who were in the \b family\b0 could redeem their brother and his possessions. This was to ensure that each family in the nation of Israel would have an inheritance in the land. \cf1\ul Lev_25:28\cf0\ulnone "But if he be not able to restore \i it \i0 to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of \b jubilee\b0 : and in the jubilee it shall go out, and \b he shall return unto his possession\b0 ." Redemption is a family matter. Only those who were next of kin could redeem a brother or his possessions, the land of his inheritance.\b\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28 KINSMAN REDEEMER\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 In the book of Ruth we have the story of the kinsman redeemer. Because Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, and their two sons had died in Moab without having children, therefore there was no children insure that the family would have an \b inheritance\b0 in the land. Boaz, brother of Elimelech, was a near kinsman and willing to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Boaz was very careful to make sure that the nearest kinsman had the first chance to redeem Naomi and Ruth because the right of redemptiLVAL'on belonged to him. \cf1\ul Rth_4:1-6\cf0\ulnone "Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the\b kinsman \b0 (\b\i GA'AL\b0\i0 ) of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. This would give his children a larger inheritance. When he found out that he would have to bear children with Ruth then he refused to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Having more children with Ruth would \b mar\b0 , \b spill\b0 , \b lose\b0 , or \b perish\b0 his own inheritance. Boaz is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ. Naomi is a type of the nation of Israel, and Ruth is a type of the church both of which are in the family. The "\b We\b0 " of Ephesians 1:7 is a reference to the "\b Saints\b0 " and "\b Faithful\b0 " of verse 1. The "\b We\b0 " of Colossians 1:14 is a reference to the "\b saints and faithful brethren\b0 " in verse 2. The action of the present tense can be stopped any time. When we become unfaithful to the Lord, then we have chosen another master and we need to be redeemed. As a child of God we can either accept or refuse to be delivered. Redemption and remission have to be continuously available to us, otherwise we would never be able to be free to serve the Lord. The Old Testament reveals that God redeems those in his family, the children of Israel, from the bondage of others so that they could serve Him. \cf1\ul Exo_4:22-23\cf0\ulnone "And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, \b Israel \b0\i is \i0 my \b son, \b0\i even \i0 my firstborn:\i \i0 And I say unto thee, \b Let my son go, \b0 that he may\b serve me\b0 ." The Lord instituted this practice to stimulate a man's son to ask the question "What is this?" It was then that a father could tell the exodus story of how God redeemed them from the bondage of Egypt. This passage shows that it is \b only\b0 the first born male child that was to be redeemed and none of the other children. This was Jacob's testimony to his grandsons, Ephraim and Manasseh, that the Lord had been faithful to redeem him from the bondage of evil. Two things were to take place every fifty years. \b First\b0 , every man that had sold his land, which was part of his family's inheritance, was to have it returned to him and his family. \b Second\b0 , every man that had sold himself to another was to be released back to his family. In \cf1\ul Lev_25:23-25\cf0\ulnone "The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land \i is \i0 mine; for ye \i are \i0 strangers and sojourners with me. And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a \b redemption\b0 \b\i for\b0\i0 the\b land.\b0 If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away \i some \i0 of his possession, and if any of \b his kin\b0 come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold." We can see that \b only\b0 those who were in the \b family\b0 could redeem their brother and his possessions. This was to ensure that each family in the nation of Israel would have an inheritance in the land. \cf1\ul Lev_25:28\cf0\ulnone "But if he be not able to restore \i it \i0 to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of \b jubilee\b0 : and in the jubilee it shall go out, and \b he shall return unto his possession\b0 ." Redemption is a family matter. Only those who were next of kin could redeem a brother or his possessions, the land of his inheritance.\b\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28 KINSMAN REDEEMER\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 In the book of Ruth we have the story of the kinsman redeemer. Because Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, and their two sons had died in Moab without having children, therefore there was no children insure that the family would have an \b inheritance\b0 in the land. Boaz, brother of Elimelech, was a near kinsman and willing to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Boaz was very careful to make sure that the nearest kinsman had the first chance to redeem Naomi and Ruth because the rightLVAL3 of redemption belonged to him. \cf1\ul Rth_4:1-6\cf0\ulnone "Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the\b kinsman \b0 (\b\i GA'AL\b0\i0 ) of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. This would give his children a larger inheritance. When he found out that he would have to bear children with Ruth then he refused to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Having more children with Ruth would \b mar\b0 , \b spill\b0 , \b lose\b0 , or \b perish\b0 his own inheritance. Boaz is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ. Naomi is a type of the nation of Israel, and Ruth is a type of the church both of which are in the family. When we are part of the family then we have a kinsman redeemer, Jesus Christ, so that we will not lose our inheritance.\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b REDEMPTION IN THE NEW TESTAMENT\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 There is not a single reference in the Old Testament of the dead being redeemed, only those who were alive. We are first given life by LVAL4being born from above into the family of God. As a child of God we are to please Him by serving Him. That word is \f1\fs26 luw\fs24 \f0 (\ul 3089\ulnone ) which means \b to loosen, unbind,\b0 and\b unfasten\b0 as found in the \ulw The Analytical Greek Lexicon\ulnone . The word \f1\fs26 apolutrosiv\f0\fs24 is also translated \b deliverance \b0 in \cf1\ul Heb_11:35\cf0\ulnone . The word \f1\fs26 lutron\f0\fs24 (3083) is part of the family of words related to redemption and is used twice, and is translated \b ransom\b0 . The word \f1\fs26 agorazw\f0\fs24 means \b to purchase \b0 but is translated \b redeemed\b0 in the book of Revelation. The parsing of the verb "\b We have\b0 " in both verses is 3rd person, plural, present, active, indicative. The present tense expresses action as continuous and the active voice tells us that the subject "\b We\b0 " is doing the action of the verb "\b Have.\b0 " To whom does the word "\b We\b0 " refer to in both Ephesians and Colossians? The "\b We\b0 " of Ephesians 1:7 is a reference to the "\b Saints\b0 " and "\b Faithful\b0 " of verse 1. The "\b We\b0 " of Colossians 1:14 is a reference to the "\b saints and faithful brethren\b0 " in verse 2. The action of the present tense can be stopped any time. When we become unfaithful to the Lord, then we have chosen another master and we need to be redeemed. As a child of God we can either accept or refuse to be delivered. Redemption and remission have to be continuously available to us, otherwise we would never be able to be free to serve the Lord. The Old Testament reveals that God redeems those in his family, the children of Israel, from the bondage of others so that they could serve Him. \cf1\ul Exo_4:22-23\cf0\ulnone "And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, \b Israel \b0\i is \i0 my \b son, \b0\i even \i0 my firstborn:\i \i0 And I say unto thee, \b Let my son go, \b0 that he may\b serve me\b0 ." There are other words that are derivatives of \b\i PADAH\b0\i0 : 6302, 6304, and 6306. (\ul The word numbers are from Strong's Concordance\ulnone ). The Lord instituted this practice to stimulate a man's son to ask the question "What is this?" It was then that a father could tell the exodus story of how God redeemed them from the bondage of Egypt. This passage shows that it is \b only\b0 the first born male child that was to be redeemed and none of the other children. This was Jacob's testimony to his grandsons, Ephraim and Manasseh, that the Lord had been faithful to redeem him from the bondage of evil. Two things were to take place every fifty years. \b First\b0 , every man that had sold his land, which was part of his family's inheritance, was to have it returned to him and his family. \b Second\b0 , every man that had sold himself to another was to be released back to his family. In \cf1\ul Lev_25:23-25\cf0\ulnone "The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land \i is \i0 mine; for ye \i are \i0 strangers and sojourners with me. And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a \b redemption\b0 \b\i for\b0\i0 the\b land.\b0 If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away \i some \i0 of his possession, and if any of \b his kin\b0 come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold." We can see that \b only\b0 those who were in the \b family\b0 could redeem their brother and his possessions. This was to ensure that each family in the nation of Israel would have an inheritance in the land. \cf1\ul Lev_25:28\cf0\ulnone "But if he be not able to restore \i it \i0 to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of \b jubilee\b0 : and in the jubilee it shall go out, and \b he shall return unto his possession\b0 ." Redemption is a family matter. Only those who were next of kin could redeem a brother or his possessions, the land of his inheritance.\b\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28 KINSMAN REDEEMER\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 In the book of Ruth we have the story of the kinsman redeemer. Because Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, and their two sons had died in Moab without having children, therefore there was no children insure that the family would have an \b inheritance\b0 in the land. Boaz, brother of Elimelech, was a near kinsman and willing to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Boaz was very careful to make sure that the nearest kinsman had the first chance to redeem Naomi and Ruth because the rightLVAL? of redemption belonged to him. \cf1\ul Rth_4:1-6\cf0\ulnone "Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the\b kinsman \b0 (\b\i GA'AL\b0\i0 ) of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. This would give his children a larger inheritance. When he found out that he would have to bear children with Ruth then he refused to redeem Naomi and Ruth. Having more children with Ruth would \b mar\b0 , \b spill\b0 , \b lose\b0 , or \b perish\b0 his own inheritance. Boaz is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ. Naomi is a type of the nation of Israel, and Ruth is a type of the church both of which are in the family. When we are part of the family then we have a kinsman redeemer, Jesus Christ, so that we will not lose our inheritance.\par \pard\keepn\s1\sb240\sa60\qc\kerning28\b REDEMPTION IN THE NEW TESTAMENT\par \pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2880\tx4320\tx5760\kerning0\b0 There is not a single reference in the Old Testament of the dead being redeemed, only those who were alive. We are first given life by LVAL@being born from above into the family of God. As a child of God we are to please Him by serving Him. That word is \f1\fs26 luw\fs24 \f0 (\ul 3089\ulnone ) which means \b to loosen, unbind,\b0 and\b unfasten\b0 as found in the \ulw The Analytical Greek Lexicon\ulnone . The word \f1\fs26 apolutrosiv\f0\fs24 is also translated \b deliverance \b0 in \cf1\ul Heb_11:35\cf0\ulnone . The word \f1\fs26 lutron\f0\fs24 (3083) is part of the family of words related to redemption and is used twice, and is translated \b ransom\b0 . The word \f1\fs26 agorazw\f0\fs24 means \b to purchase \b0 but is translated \b redeemed\b0 in the book of Revelation. The parsing of the verb "\b We have\b0 " in both verses is 3rd person, plural, present, active, indicative. The present tense expresses action as continuous and the active voice tells us that the subject "\b We\b0 " is doing the action of the verb "\b Have.\b0 " To whom does the word "\b We\b0 " refer to in both Ephesians and Colossians? The "\b We\b0 " of Ephesians 1:7 is a reference to the "\b Saints\b0 " and "\b Faithful\b0 " of verse 1. The "\b We\b0 " of Colossians 1:14 is a reference to the "\b saints and faithful brethren\b0 " in verse 2. The action of the present tense can be stopped any time. When we become unfaithful to the Lord, then we have chosen another master and we need to be redeemed. As a child of God we can either accept or refuse to be delivered. Redemption and remission have to be continuously available to us, otherwise we would never be able to be free to serve the Lord. When we enter into our inheritance in the heavenlies, we will no longer need to be redeemed.
